  • obama gets it

    wow...

...amazing.  obama gets it.  this is what i expect out of a president.  someone who does not shy away from the correct answer, does not oversimplify it for the 30 second sound bite... gives a complete answer that addresses the concerns of both the public AND the parties being effected...

specifically i'm talking about the merit pay part.  my stanford school of ed people have been telling us that merit pay is bad. bad bad bad.  it's not a good idea because the way you judge merit is usually based on an unfair test where teachers will be judged on how well you teach to that one measure rather than how good of an overall educator you are.  so someone who teaches general critical thinking skills is at a potential disadvantage to someone who teaches very specifically to the merit test...  its like centering your whole teaching style around the STAR test... ewww...

obama hit this issue head on... did not back away from his stand about merit pay but instead redefined it.... merit should not be defined by a single measure, for either a student or a teacher.

the only problem with what he said was, what specific measures are you going to use to measure what merit is?

but i've heard none of the other candidates talk about something like this in a candid AND informed fashion... just a lot of fluffyness. yay better schools, yay better pay.  How?  Why?  What specific issues in education are you able to address?  hillary hasn't proved to me that she gets it. mccain doesn't get it.  obama... he gets it.
